Language is fluid, constantly changing and evolving...and as such, so does the written word.
Looking back, I don't know that I've used proper MLA formatting since I was in University, and even then it's not like I had a mass of papers to write each term. My novel uses proper formatting...but now any use of indents and notations have been all but lost.
Do they even teach letter writing in school now? So much of our correspondence now is done via e-mail; or worse, in texts and short form on sites like Twitter.
The way we as a society use language to communicating with each other is changing - but I'm not entirely positive that it is a change for the better. We tend to go for the quick option (like dropping the letter U from Colour) and laziness should never be encouraged. My writing style has never been perfect and my vocabulary is not nearly as vast as others around me, but I can at least claim to know how to write a proper sentence. Will future generations only communicate ideas in 140 characters?

Work, Week Fifty-One
Hello Universe!
It's been almost a year now since I started my new job, and as such it's been almost a year since I wrote my last blog entry. For shame! I don't have any readers to really disappoint, but the fact of the matter is I need to focus on writing. I've gotten out of the habit from my days of daily writing with ACTD...and now I barely write at all.
My last blog entry was fifty-one weeks ago, the first week of my job at St. Amant. Life overall has improved greatly since I started my position there, but even so it's been a chaotic ride. I've changed jobs within my department, recently changed offices and dealt with a lot of crazy days. I'm loving my new Office Space (except those damn TPS reports Marlo keeps harassing me about); it's nice having a space that I can call my own again.
Outside of work, life has progressed nicely as well. Josh has been helping me a tonne, trying to turn my place into an actual home. The basement finally has furniture and there are plants growing and photos on the walls. The next goal is the yard. All in all it's a slow work in progress - but at least we're making headway on it. Last week I was even handy and we hung a painting in my bedroom. As long as it doesn't involve drilling, I can do it!
Sadly though, my hobbies have sort of fallen to the way-side. Josh and I have been burning through DVDs pretty fiercely over the cold and blistery winter. We've watched through all of Buffy, Bones, Battlestar Galactica, and Farscape. Now we're onto watching Angel and Michelle has gotten us pretty addicted to Doctor Who. Over the past few weeks we've watched through all of NuWho and I'm tempted to buy all of the NuWho seasons on iTunes one of these days...
...oh and speaking of iTunes and online content - I've fallen madly in love with Felicia Day (creator of The Guild). If you don't know what The Guild is, go to their website and watch it. Go! Now! Did you watch it? Isn't it awesome? Yes, yes it is. Don't deny it.
Besides my serious addiction to DVD/online Television, I've slipped back into the Warcraft addiction. No surprise there, but at least it gives me something to focus on while Josh and Michelle fondle their yarn. As my yearning for Azeroth grows, so too does their need for crocheting.
I have to say though, they've both been making some amazing things. Michelle made me a Meta-Knight as a late birthday gift. He's now my mascot at work and you can see him in the background of my office picture. She gave him wings and a cape...which is, like, totally awesome! Now I just need to get a Kirby and I can have them doing Smash Bros style battles at work.
That's pretty much a quick summary of my life over the past year. I shall endeavor to update this blog on a more frequent basis. I must continue to write and am going to try at least on a weekly basis now.
Must...replace...WoW...with...writing. Or so my conscience tells me. Until next time, I leave you with an awesome video done by the Communication students at Université du Québec à Montréal. Enjoy!
